First responders were kept very busy on Friday in Delta.
According to Deputy fire Chief Tim Ipsen, Delta firefighters responded to 24 calls in a 24-hour period including nine calls between the hours of 4 and 6 p.m. on Jan. 6.
“It is definitely up there. You might see that amount of calls during a major weather event, but these calls were just so random,” he said. “We had every fire hall out responding to a call or multiple calls during the 24-hour period. I don’t know if there was a full moon, but it certainly was a very, very active day for our firefighters.”
In many of the calls, paramedics as well as Delta Police also responded.
Of the 24 calls, only two were for actual fires – a garage fire in Tsawwassen and a garbage can fire behind a home in North Delta.
Here is the breakdown of the other calls that firefighters from all seven fire halls in South Delta and North Delta responded to:
Medical calls: 16 – these included calls for people in medical distress (heart issues, falls etc.)
Overdose: 1
Motor vehicle collisions: 3
Building alarm: 1
Public safety call: 1
