Firehawks skate on NHL ice as part of Canucks intermission

Minor hockey players get thrill of a lifetime at Rogers Arena

South Delta Minor Hockey's H3 Firehawks enjoyed a great start to their season by getting an opportunity to skate on the same ice as their NHL heroes in front of thousands of fans.

The Firehawks were one of 20 lucky teams to be randomly chosen by the Canucks Centre for BC Hockey to experience what it is like to play in an NHL arena. The local squad took to the ice during the first intermission of the Canucks game against the Nashville Predators on Dec. 1 at Rogers Arena. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for these young hockey players and they did not disappoint, entertaining the sold out crowd with a tightly fought game that ended in a 1-1 tie. Congratulations Firehawks on putting on a great show.

The team includes: Logan Lechner, Ryan Carleton, Tyler Allan, Kai Clayton, Kylan Husband, Joel Epplette, Michael Norcott, Tyson Sandulak, Ekhtiar Nijjar, Gavin Wood, Ray Stevens, Jeremy Chamberlain, Carson Lee, Justin Wagner, Kit Fredeman and Reese Tamboline. The Firehawks are coached by Todd Allan, Wayne Carleton, Bill Husband, Jonn Epplette and Michael Norcott. The team manager is Matt Clayton.

The club thanks the Vancouver Canucks, the Canucks Centre for BC Hockey and Intact Insurance for making this all possible. Also a special thanks to Joel Chamberlain for officiating the game.
