The distinctive Delta flavor in the Vancouver Warriors’ line-up has taken a significant hit.
An MRI this week confirmed Ladner’s own Logan Schuss has a torn MCL and ACL after injuring his knee in the Warriors’ loss to Panther City on Jan. 28 at Rogers Arena. The recovery process from surgery typically takes nine to 12 months which will, at the very least, wipe out his summer season.
In 2022, Schuss passed on his Western Lacrosse Association season with the New West Salmonbellies to help his hometown Ladner Pioneers win their third President’s Cup national title in franchise history. Ladner is expected to host the tournament in 2024.
In what has been a relatively healthy career, dating back to his junior days with the Delta Islanders, Schuss had been dealing with nerve damage in his neck from an early season hit. The recently turned 32-year-old had 15 points in seven games, including eight goals.
Two days after Schuss’ injury, the Warriors traded leading scorer Mitch Jones to the Wings for a first-round draft pick in 2023, defenseman Steph Charbonneau, and a second-round draft pick in 2024.
The 30-year-old Jones, who grew up in North Delta and has a player development role with Delta Minor Lacrosse, led the Warriors in scoring with 35 points in seven games. He had two goals and five points in his Wings’ debut on Saturday, a 13-5 win over Albany.
“We want to thank Mitch Jones for all of the work he has done for us on the floor and in the community,” said Warriors GM and head coach Troy Cordingley. “Mitch gave all he had each and every game. He has strong local ties and was always willing and wanting to give back to the lacrosse community. He was a fantastic ambassador and leader for the Warriors.”
