A couple of standouts from the Ladner Red Sox 13U AAA baseball team will conclude their hectic summer schedule by wearing Team B.C. colours.
Hayden Mangat and Mason Dubnov were both additional roster selections for Baseball B.C.’s national qualifying District Six Little League that is headed to Windsor next week for Baseball Canada’s 13U National Championships.
Dubnov already had vacation plans with his family, so he is joining runner-up Ridge Meadows instead that will be attending this weekend’s Western Canadian Championships in Swift Current.
Ladner’s bid to earn Team B.C. status in Richmond ended with a loss to Abbotsford.
The Red Sox opened the qualifier with a 24-9 win over Nanaimo, before dropping a hard-fought 7-5 decision to District Six. The playdowns brought together teams from B.C. Minor and Little League to determine provincial representation.
Coached by Doug Miller, Mike Hughes, Sean MacDonald and Bryan Hudie , the Red Sox went 9-4 in summer interlock play then headed to Nanaimo for the B.C. Minor’s provincial championships where an impressive run ended with a 12-6 loss to White Rock in the championship game.
Ladner’s run to the podium included an 8-1 semi-final win over Nanaimo after round-robin victories over North Shore (3-1), Victoria Grey (8-2), Abbotsford (7-5) and Cloverdale (8-3).
