The North Delta Blue Jays of the B.C. Premier Baseball League has announced 2021 recipients of the Jonathan Côté Scholarship.
Delta Secondary graduates Noah Thomas and Ryan McCarthy, along with Sands Secondary’s Carter Spencer each receiver $500 to continue their baseball careers at their post-secondary schools.
McCarthy is headed to Butte College in California, while Thomas is going to Washington State to play for Centralia College. Spencer is off to Kamloops to join the program at Thompson Rivers University.
Through the Angel 56 Foundation, the Jonathan Côté Scholarship is in tribute to the former Blue Jays standout who lost his battle with brain cancer in 2018 at the age of 22.
He led the BCPBL in strikeouts in 2014 before taking his career south of the border for stops at Colorado Mesa University and Otero Junior College. He was a player who demonstrated a strong work ethic, was an outstanding teammate with strong academic abilities and community involvement.
The Blue Jays finished the 2021 campaign with 19-7 record before bowing out in the BCPBL playoffs.
