The North Delta Huskies are off to the B.C. AAA Boys Basketball Championships next week after completing a perfect run through league and zone play.
The Huskies were crowned South Fraser AAA champions Friday night with a dominating 70-38 win over the MacNeill Ravens at Steveston-London Secondary in Richmond.
A fixture in the provincial rankings all season, North Delta earlier cruised to a first place finish in the Sur-Del regular season (7-0) and playoffs (2-0) then produced three more victories this week.
Under head coach Jas Hothi and a wealth of experience assistant coaches — that includes former provincial champion head coaches Jesse Hundal and the legendary Bill Edwards — the future is bright too with primarily a Grade 11 line-up.
The Huskies leaned on their work at the defensive end of the floor in the final, leading by eight points at the break before heating up offensively in the second half to pull away for the convincing win.
They earlier opened the championships with a pair of wins over league rivals — defeating Salish 71-59 in the quarter-finals and South Delta 75-42.
Standout Grade 11 point guard Harvir Hothi was named the tournament MVP. Grade 12 teammate Krishan Jeet was selected to the all-star team.
The provincials tip-off on Wednesday at the Langley Events Centre. The Huskies have earned the No. 6 seed and will open against No. 11 Alberni at 3:30 p.m.
