Pioneers bolster roster for nationals with signings of three players

The Ladner Pioneers continue to strengthen their roster as they prepare to host next month's National Senior Men's Field Lacrosse Championships in Tsawwassen.

The hosts have added three more players, including a pair who are already familiar with the team.

Kevin Olson has rejoined the squad after a two year hiatus and will compliment Jordan McBride and Ryan Keith at the right-handed attack spot. Olson has been one of Ladner's more prolific scorers at past nationals, including having a key role in the team's Ross Cup victory in 2008.

The club also received good news when local standout Gary Bining committed to playing in the tournament. The Ladner native and former Ohio State University star had retired from field and box lacrosse to focus on medical school commitments, but is flying in for the opportunity to try and win gold in his hometown.

The third signing is Delta Footmen product and Calgary Roughnecks veteran Pete Mcfetridge who has always been on the Pioneers radar screen and has finally signed with the team.

"Pete has been in the Mann Cup with the Salmonbellies in the past few years and hasn't been able to commit to us for field," explained Ladner coach Greg Rennie. "He was traded to Burnaby which made him available."

Mcfetridge will bolster the Pioneers' midfield where he is expected to play alongside Roughneck teammate Andrew McBride.

The nationals take place Thanksgiving Weekend.
