Pioneers off to a good start at President’s Cup

Ladner sits at 2-1 heading into day four

The Ladner Pioneers sit in third spot in the standings at the halfway point of the 2024 President’s Cup national lacrosse championship.

Before play started on day four (Wednesday), Ladner had a 2-1 record, tied with the Snake Island Muskies from the Three Nations Senior Lacrosse League in the standings.

The Allegany Arrows from the Can Am Lacrosse League topped the table at 4-0 with the Edmonton Miners from the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League in second place with a 3-1 record.

Following the round robin, which wraps up Thursday night, the top four teams in the seven-team tournament make the semifinals, which will be played on Friday.

The Pioneers opened the tournament on Sunday with a 16-8 win over the Standing Buffalo Fighting Sioux from the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League then dropped a 6-3 decision to the Miners on Monday night.

Ladner rebounded on Tuesday evening for a 12-7 win over the Six Nations Rivermen from the Ontario Series Lacrosse League.

Ladner was to play two games on Wednesday (Allegany and the Victoria Shamrocks) and close out the round robin Thursday night against Snake Island.

Due to press deadlines, results from Wednesday’s games were not available.

Tyler Pace is the leading scorer thus far for the Pioneers with two goals and 13 assists sitting fourth in the tournament standings.

Mitch Jones has seven goals and five assists for 12 points while Spencer Bromley has five goals and five assists in the three games so far.

All games are being played at the Ladner Leisure Centre.
