It was a “hat trick” of titles for the South Delta Sun Devils at Delta Basketball League’s Super Saturday at Delview Secondary.
The 2021/22 regular season culminated with the five championship games played at Delview. Four of them featured a team from South Delta and three came away with titles.
The Sun Devils capped a dominating run at the Grade 8 level by winning the girls and boys crowns.
The SDSS girls went 6-0 in league play then defeated Sands before a 39-20 victory against the Seaquam Seahawks in the title game. The SDSS boys went 7-0 before culminating their district run with a 45-34 triumph over the Delta Pacers.
The Sun Devils’ third title came in junior boys with a 51-37 victory over the Seahawks, after going 6-0 in league play and defeating North Delta in the semi-finals.
It was also a convincing run in junior girls play as Seaquam breezed to the Delta title with an 84-30 win over the Sun Devils in the final.
In the Grade 8 boys’ title game, the North Delta Huskies outlasted Sands 41-39.
All these teams now turn their attention to the South Fraser Championships that tip-off this weekend.
South Delta is hosting the boys tournament that tipped off on Monday and culminates with the title game on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
The junior girls tournament starts Friday at Seaquam and wraps up on Feb. 23.
The rest of the championships are at North Surrey (Grade 8 Boys), Lord Tweedsmuir (Grade 8 Girls), Burnett (Grade 9 Boys) and McNair (Grade 9 Girls).
