Tsawwassen go-cart racer moves into the quarter finals in France

Qualified after doing well at go-cart event earlier this year in B.C. Interior

Carter Lundy has a need for speed, which comes in handy if your career goal is to be an auto racer.

After winning a go-cart race in June, Lundy earned a scholarship for a week of racing in France, and has advanced to the quarter finals, at the Jacques Villeneuve FEED F4 Driving Academy in Magny-Cours, France, south of Paris.

The Tsawwassen resident will be back in France in two weeks to compete in the finals, which could earn him a seat in French F4 race car next racing season.

Formula 4 racing is a step up from go carts and involves open-wheel cars with engine sizes up to 1.6 litres and maximum horsepower output of 160 bhp.

“He had a great week and got faster every day. Today, he put in his fastest laps, finishing in the top four, sending him through as the only Canadian in his group,” said his mom, Nicole last week.

She said her son is now training and fundraising for the final competition which begins Aug. 27.
