The Winskill Dolphins Swim Club began their spring competitive season with the first in a series of championship meets.

As a result of some great performances and best times in the swim meets so far, 11 Dolphins qualified for the Divisional Championships held in Vancouver in late February. Divisional qualifiers included Kyla Marshall, Caitlyn Fowler, Leo Kim, Keaton McGregor, Tiffany Ho, Coco Xie, Bodey Iverson, Aidan Lew, Matius Raffai, Sophie Raffai and Lucas Chown.

During the three days, under the leadership and guidance of assistant coach Katie Rosychuk, the swimmers delivered more than 32 personal best times, several provincial qualifying times and multiple medals including: one silver and one bronze for Marshall; one gold, two silvers, and one bronze for Ho; one silver and two bronze for Iverson; one gold, one silver and one bronze for Kim; two golds and one silver for Xie; and a bronze for Fowler.

The winter provincials are next in Victoria where 13 swimmers have qualified including Fowler, Kim, McGregor, Iverson, Ho, the Raffai’s, Xie, Jeremy Slinn, Kelly Qi, Naomi Mynott, Abby McLeod and Zach McLeod.

Following the provincials, the Dolphins have at least nine swimmers (McGregor, Iverson, Slinn, Ho, Qi, Xi, Mynott and the McLeod’s) that have qualified for Western Canadians in Winnipeg, and of those nine, Qi, Slinn, Mynott and the McLeod’s have also qualified for the Canadian Olympic Trials in May in Montreal.

Every event represents an opportunity for swimmers to get best times and qualify for subsequent championship meets and head coach Judy Baker is excited to see her swimmers perform at their best over a busy spring season.
