WINNIPEG — Police in Winnipeg say they haven't been able to confirm reports earlier this week of a knife-wielding man at the University of Manitoba.
They say investigators have explored multiple sources of evidence since receiving a call early Tuesday about a man dressed in black wielding a large knife in the Allen Building at the university's Fort Garry campus.
Police say none of those sources have been able to substantiate the information received.
Campus security has said an alarm was triggered at the Allen physics laboratory around the time police were called to campus, and security then received a call from someone inside the building reporting a man with a knife.
Police issued an emergency alert on TV, radio and cellphones that ordered nearby residents and students to stay somewhere safe.
Investigators urge anyone with additional information to contact them.
