Champion Cavalry, runner-up Forge FC dominate Canadian Premier League's Best XI

TORONTO — Newly crowned champion Cavalry FC and runner-up Forge FC dominate the Canadian Premier League's Best XI, with four players from each named to the all-star side.

TORONTO — Newly crowned champion Cavalry FC and runner-up Forge FC dominate the Canadian Premier League's Best XI, with four players from each named to the all-star side.

Cavalry's Daan Klomp, Fraser Aird, Tobias Warschewski and Ali Musse are joined on the Best XI by Forge's Kyle Bekker, Alexander Achinioti-Jönsson, Alessandro Hojarbrpour and Tristan Borges.

The other all-stars are Pacific goalkeeper Emil Gazdov, Valour FC's Themi Antonoglou and York United's Brian Wright.

The Best XI was chosen by the CPL's football department.

Borges was previously named the league's Player of the Year while Klomp was chosen Defender of the Year and Gazdov won the Golden Glove Award.

Warschewski won both the league's Golden Boot Award as leading scorer and CPL Final MVP honours. Wright was chosen the Players’ Player of the Year by his peers.

Klomp, Musse and Bekker were named to the league's inaugural all-star team last year. The other eight are first-time selections.

CPL Best XI

Goalkeeper: Emil Gazdov, Pacific FC

Defenders: Themi Antonoglou, Valour FC; Daan Klomp, Cavalry FC; Alexander Achinioti-Jönsson, Forge FC, Fraser Aird, Cavalry FC.

Midfielders: Kyle Bekker, Forge FC; Alessandro Hojarbrpour, Forge FC; Tristan Borges, Forge FC.

Forwards: Tobias Warschewski, Cavalry FC; Brian Wright, York United FC; Ali Musse, Cavalry FC.
