It was business as usual at Cove Links on Monday after a COVID-19 rumour led to closure of the Ladner golf course a day earlier.
Instead of dealing with a typical busy Sunday on a glorious afternoon, supervisor Brenda Dobro spent six hours scrubbing the pro shop area with bleach. For good measure, the regular cleaners were brought in too. That was to reassure customers after word circulated on social media a player came through on Saturday who tested positive for COVID-19.
Dobro said that wasn’t the case at all.
“Person ‘A’ was in the U.S., never been in B.C., and tested positive for COVID-19. Person ‘B’ was in B.C. and left for the U.S. on Aug. 11, five days ago. He has no symptoms and that’s where the whole story got embellished,” explained Dobro. “When person ‘B’ came golfing somebody somehow said your brother has it but he doesn’t.
“We still did the cleaning because we wanted to err on the side of caution. It’s been so good here with the safety measures we have in place. We have had no problems, but I know this was all over Facebook yesterday. Everything is cleaned and sanitized. There is no risk to the public at all.”
