I am not surprised that the fir trees will have to be replaced, they often rot and blow down in a windstorm.
But rather than a mix of other various trees, please consider a small grove of Garry Oaks, truly unique, a native, indigenous species only known on Southern Vancouver Island.
Very easy to grow here in Tsawwassen. I have one, and I am only an amature gardener.
For years these magnificent trees were thought to have been planted by Francis Drake, supposedly, he had time for a break from fighting the Spaniards.
Then of course, from Windsor Park in Britain as such a tree had to have come from elsewhere.
A few decades ago, a Garry Oak in Victoria had to be removed, to make way for a sidewalk.
An Arborist counted the rings, discovering the tree was many centuries old and indeed, indigenous and unique to other varieties of oak in North America.
