Letters: Maybe time to slow down?

Do we really want more people, more congestion, traffic?

Century Group president Sean Hodgins speaks to residents at a recent open house.

Editor:

On New Years Day I was down at the Southlands area, and noticed this Century Group development is only partially built out. I was surprised because I was under the impression it was almost finished.

This got me to thinking, why are we now going through the whole process of The Century Group pushing for another major development in the town centre at this time?

My concern is we have not felt the full extent of the Southlands build out and the extra traffic this will bring to the now very busy 56th Street congestion. Can we not finish one project before we start another? Are we really in such a hurry to increase the population of Tsawwassen by thousands more?

Do we really want more people, more congestion, traffic? Think about it, no change in 50 years to the two main roads into Tsawwassen, but developers want to add thousands more.

Add to this, you have HUB lobbing for bike lanes on 56th Street, Southpointe Academy wants to double in size, plugging up 19th Street right when everyone wants to get to work.

I hear no discussion on car traffic improvement into or out of Tsawwassen. This should be serious food for honest discussion well before any decision is made on the Town Centre re-development.
