Re: Let’s work for a quieter Delta (Optimist, letters, May 26)
Somebody’s priorities are way out of whack.
When we moved here in the late 90’s, police and ambulance sirens were rarely heard. Now, by my observations (living near 56th and 12th) sirens are routinely heard five to eight times per 24-hour day.
Another major irritant is traffic, specifically large earth-moving tractor trailers and other un-mufflered vehicles rumbling between the 15 sets of traffic lights along the 18 streets between the border and Highway 17.
Somebody should be giving consideration to these sources of irritating, sleep-interrupting noise before trying to persuade Nav Canada to alter inbound/outbound flight patterns of modern, twin-engine aircraft whose acoustic implications have been significantly lowered in the past 20 years with the introduction of engine fan bypass technology improvements.
