Delta prepping for storm surge event Wednesday

Residents are encouraged to stay away from coastal areas until the event has passed and to take all suitable precautions to protect themselves and their property

The City of Delta is preparing for high waves and possible flooding with a storm event starting Tuesday night.

The City of Delta is preparing for a significant storm surge event is expected to begin Tuesday night, expecting to peak by Wednesday morning.

The city says that the resulting high-water levels are anticipated to coincide with strong winds, elevating flood risk for the Beach Grove and Boundary Bay communities, and possibly Westham Island. High tide on Wednesday will occur at approximately 10 a.m.

Residents are encouraged to stay away from coastal areas until the event has passed and to take all suitable precautions to protect themselves and their property.

  • 1A Ave Boat Launch
  • 3rd Ave Beach Access
  • 16th Ave Beach Access
  • 17A Ave (West of Beach Grove Elementary)
  • Ladner Works Yard
  • Seaview Road

City staff will be monitoring conditions and assisting as required. Portable pumps and generators may be located to affected areas as needed.
