The Millennium Trail will be an even better experience to walk or cycle.

Council recently endorsed a recommendation to install wayfinding signage along the trail, developed in accordance with TransLink regional standards for cycling to ensure consistency with other signs in the Lower Mainland.

Staff anticipate the signage can be installed this summer and funding is available within the Millennium Trail reserve, a report notes.

Council had directed staff to come back with a report on the expansion of Millennium Trail from Ferry Road to Wellington Point including recommendations for improvements to paving, accessibility, branding and wayfinding signage along the route.

The section between Spot on the Water Park and the River Road West Dike where the trail was reconnected has a gravel and limestone surface which is currently accessible for both pedestrians and cyclists.

It was noted that some minor improvements could be undertaken along the trail by regrading the gravel surfaces on some sections and clearing vegetation where required.

Further improvements, such as paving of the section of the trail, would need to be considered in a future capital plan, the report adds.

Coun. Dylan Kruger said the trail has been “one of the gems of our community” and he looks forward to further enhancements.
