A 34-year-old man is dead and a 27-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in the fatal Oct. 3, 2024 stabbing.

A 34-year-old man is dead, and a 27-year-old woman has been arrested after a stabbing in southeastern Vancouver.

The incident occurred just after midnight, early in the morning of Oct. 3, 2024, Vancouver Police Department (VPD) said.

Officers were called to a residential building near the intersection of Kingsway and Melbourne Street, not far from the border with Burnaby.

Inside, they found a man who had been stabbed.

"The man died before being taken to hospital," police said in a news release. The death is being investigated as a homicide.

The victim has been identified as Brian Matthew Clayton, police said.

Dolly Patricia Capoose, 27, was arrested near the scene in connection to Clayton's death. It's believed the two knew each other.

The B.C. Prosecution Service has now charged Capoose with second-degree murder. She remains in custody and the investigation is ongoing, the VPD updated on Friday.

Clad in grey jail sweats, her hair in a ponytail, the softspoken Capoose appeared before Vancouver Provincial Court Judge Jennifer Lopes.

The case was adjourned to Oct. 21.
