Community artists were recognized this week by Delta council for their colourful banner designs.
Mayor George Harvie presented this year’s community banner contest winners at the March 28th council meeting.
Harvie said the five winning entries were selected from 35 contest submissions and chosen by members of the local arts community and Delta’s Heritage Advisory Commission.
“I recently had the opportunity to visit each winner to congratulate them and delivery them their winning banner and honorarium,” said Harvie. “Each of the banner designs captures various aspects of Delta’s natural beauty in agriculture reflecting many key elements that make up our community.”
The Delta Heritage award category winner is Dorothy Hobbs for her banner entitled “Our Historic Airways and Waterways.”
The Discover Delta award category winner is Leanne Trepke for her banner entitled “The View from Here.”
The Emerging Artist award category winner is Regina Lee for her banner entitled “Deas Island View.”
The Aspiring Artist award category winner is Samantha Neufeld for her banner entitled “Simply Fishing at Sunset.”
The Honourable mention award category winner is Priya Sharma for her banner entitled “Delta’s Beauty.”
