CFUW South Delta presents speaker on women in the trades

CFUW South Delta invites interested members of the public to join them at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22 to hear Karen Dearlove, Executive Director of the BC Centre for Women in the Trades.

The presentation will take place at the Benediction Lutheran Church (56th and 6 Ave. in Tsawwassen).

Dearlove has a PhD in History and has held leadership positions in cultural, not-for-profit and community organizations in Ontario and British Columbia.

While pursuing her academic studies, she worked in a series of hands-on jobs, including surveying, carpentry, concrete finishing, and various positions in the fabrication of architectural grade wood doors such as CNC programming.

An ardent supporter of the labour movement, she was instrumental in organizing her previous workplace and served as shop steward for CUPE Local 389.

She is passionate about education, social justice, Reconciliation, and representation. She is excited to bring her knowledge, skills and experience to create diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplaces in the skilled trades.

CFUW-South Delta is a member of the CFUW (the Canadian Federation of University Women). They are a non-partisan, self-funded organization with more than 6,500 members in 96 clubs across Canada. They have been an active social group in South Delta for more than 50 years, effectively advocating on issues affecting women and children, as well as providing multiple bursaries annually to deserving local women.
