It’s that time of year again! The Earthwise Heirloom Tomato Festival is back on Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and you won’t want to miss it.

This eagerly awaited event is a family-friendly celebration of B.C.’s agricultural heritage, with a special emphasis on heirloom tomatoes and the diversity of produce that is available locally.

The year’s festival will feature an impressive selection of heirloom tomatoes of all shapes, sizes and colours.

Guests will have a chance to sample and learn about these unique and flavourful tomatoes that range from large and small to round and oblong, boasting hues spanning from deep purples to vibrant yellows and greens.

Heirloom tomatoes come from plants whose seeds have been carefully saved and handed down through the generations.

Saving heirloom seeds allows us to experience the rich diversity of fruits and vegetables that have been part of our shared culinary history.

In addition to heirloom tomatoes, The Tomato Fest will also feature other heirloom veggies, from purple potatoes to red carrots, round zucchini, and turban shaped squash.

This year, Earthwise will be welcoming back the chefs from Las Catrinas Cuisine, a popular Ladner-based Mexican take-out business. Known for their bright and authentic Mexican flavours, they will be showcasing their culinary talent with a cooking demonstration highlighting the versatility of the tomato.

Coastal Olive Oils will also be at the festival, presenting the classic pairing of premium olive oil and vinegar with fresh, juicy tomatoes. Attendees will get to experience firsthand how high-quality oils and vinegars elevate the flavors of tomatoes, enhancing their natural taste in a delicious way.

Guests should also make time to visit the Earthwise Farm Cart, brimming with the best Earthwise-grown summer produce, and enjoy a leisurely stroll through the picturesque Earthwise Garden to see the latest blooms.

The Tomato festival promises a fun-filled day celebrating local produce and the vibrant spirit of the community.
