Local songwriters and performers Bocephus King and Christine Magee are lined up to play at the latest Wander Inn Café in Ladner.
“I’ll bring the guitar and see whatever hits me, whatever the audience is like,” says King (aka Jamie Perry).
Billed as a Christmas Coffeehouse, the event is set for Saturday, Dec. 20 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Ladner Christian Fellowship, 5545 Ladner Trunk Rd.
“I just want to make it an encouraging and uplifting night for anybody who wants to come and really feel inspired by the Christmas spirit,” says Magee.
She says she’ll play some of her original songs, some covers and a lot of arrangements of Christmas carols.
There will be a Christmas carol sing-a-long near the end of the show. Perry says he’ll join in with it.
Described as an artist who has “melodiously skirted so effortlessly between blues, alt country, traditional songwriting and modern aesthetics,” Perry says he’s recently been playing in a quartet with Sufi musicians.
“That’s been a real challenge to learn to play but it’s been one of the best things I’ve ever done.”
The café, which started earlier this year, is envisioned as something outside of the bar scene and a place to have a non-alcoholic beverage while being entertained with live music and conversation. They are regularly held on the third Saturday of the month.
Admission is a suggested $5 donation.
• Perry will also be playing in support of the food bank at Stir Coffee House in Ladner Village tomorrow (Saturday, Dec. 13) at 7 p.m. Non-perishable food items and/or donations for the food bank will be accepted.
