The City of Delta has been offered a “critical investment opportunity” by the KinVillage Association.

Members of the association were on hand at council Sept. 23 for a presentation outlining the association’s “It Takes a Village” campaign to raise $3 million to fund an expansion of the Day Program for Older Adults.

The need for funding comes from the inability to meet the current demand for services, as the program currently services approximately 98 participants, with most new applicants waiting four months or more to participate, a memo to council notes.

KinVillage is asking the city for $400,000 to fund a bathing spa area.

“With an aging population in Delta, demand for services is set to grow even further, according to KinVillage. The current fundraising campaign would support additional equipment, staffing, and space needs,” the memo notes.

KinVillage CEO Jen Fisher said a plaque would be installed outside the bathing spa area recognizing the city’s support.

Council directed staff to report back on the request.

Delta already has an active service agreement with KinVillage, providing $156,540 annually to provide physical, recreational and social services for seniors.

In December 2022, city council gave final rezoning approval for the first phase of the overall new master plan for the Tsawwassen site.

Groundbreaking of a new 152-unit seniors’ affordable rental housing complex at KinVillage was held in the summer of 2023.
