Boundary Bay Airport’s skies were busy and blue at Delta’s annual airshow Saturday afternoon.

The Boundary Bay Airshow kicked off with a Yak 18T attack flown by Ross Granley, followed by a Eurocopter flight, the Long EZ, flown by Kyle Fowler, followed by the tag team aerobatic team, Undaunted Airshows out of the Seattle area, who made their first appearance at the show.

After intermission, the CH-148 Cyclone took over, followed by the DHC-2 Beaver, then the speedy Second World War-era P-51 Mustang.

Brad Wursten also showed off in his MX-2, which included racing a car, with the show finale being the Northern Stars Aeroteam sponsored by the Optimist.

“We were very pleased with the turnout this year,” said Kathy deLisser, general manager of Alpha Aviation, which produced the show in partnership with the City of Delta.

She estimated attendance at 20,000 and said what seems to be unique about the show is the audience engagement, something noted by performers.

“They felt the crowd was having a real good time. It was a fun event for the crowd and they showed it to the performers, so that’s cool,” deLisser said.

The new performers, Undaunted Airshows also impressed, she added.

“I think it was really cool to see the Northern Stars, it’s a group of three aircraft that do incredible aerobatics. I think one of the real highlights was … Brad Wursten actually raced a Tesla,” she said. The airplane won.

Organizers will take a bit of a break and then start planning the next airshow in September. The date for that has already been set, July 20, 2025.

The show is one of the few free airshows in North America.

In order to alleviate traffic jams, the city offered free shuttle buses from two locations to the airport but one comment online noted there were long lines for the buses, which themselves were stuck in traffic.

Delta Mayor George Harvie said in a post that another incredible airshow was in the books.

“A huge shout out to Alpha Aviation, our dedicated city staff, volunteers, and all the incredible performers for making the @BoundaryBayAirshow an unforgettable event once again! Your hard work and talent brought joy and excitement to our community.”
