An annual tradition dating back to the first Fair in 1910, agriculture remains at the heart of the annual PNE Fair today.

One of the marquee programs within the agricultural department is the 4-H Festival.

For decades, the PNE Fair has been the finale event for hundreds of 4-H participants to show and sell their animals with revenue from that auction going to pay for everything from ongoing projects to post-secondary education as well as educating and inspiring the next generation of B.C. farm families.

“The 4-H auction at the PNE is a proud tradition that is so important for young 4-Her’s,” says PNE Director of Fair Operations Christie Kerr. “Ranging in age from nine to 19 years old, they focused on the objectives of knowledge, leadership, citizenship, and personal developments, and as always, they were a treat to talk to and learn about agriculture from.”

A total of 104 animals went through the auction. The swine, lamb, goat, and beef were sold with total proceeds of $334,056.75 raised for the 4-H members. It was an increase of $37,730 from 2023!
