A community shuttle bus could be coming to the Sunshine Hill neighbourhood.
Council last week agreed to conduct another survey in the community to gauge interest in extending community shuttle service in the area. Delta would make a request to TransLink if support was strong enough.
The city had conducted a survey in the community back in 2011, finding a majority of residents supported having a community shuttle service. However, due to opposition from some residents, the implementation of shuttle service was deferred.
While only 34 per cent were opposed, Coun. Bruce McDonald noted they were “really, rabidly opposed.”
Coun. Lois Jackson agreed that those against it made it loud and clear they were “resoundingly opposed" but times have changed and people may be fed up with the area not being well served by transit.
The potential transit service to Sunshine Hills was identified in TransLink’s Southwest Area Plan.
“If residents show that they are in favour of the shuttle service, TransLink will be requested to elevate the priority for providing transit service to the Sunshine Hills neighbourhood,” a staff report explains.
A previous report notes some of the concerns expressed by those opposed in 2011 included how it “would be a mistake to run any form of bus through a quiet residential neighbourhood” and “we do not want Lyon Road to become more congested.”
Almost 3,000 residents filled out that survey.
