A driver was lucky to escape major injuries after two wheels fell off a dump truck driven by a driver from a Delta company on Hwy. 1 in Abbotsford.

Delta police are keeping watch for dangerous big rigs and recently stopped two of them for being off a truck route near River and Brooke roads in North Delta.

After they were stopped, inspections of both trucks found, “major safety violations,” for both vehicles, Delta police said online.

“One vehicle had critical issues with brake and tire defects and was ordered off the road for immediate repairs,” police said.

“The other had falsified logbooks and was also removed from service due to ‘critical defects.’ ”

And last week, on Nov. 28, two wheels simply fell off a dump truck owned by a Delta company as it was driving eastbound in the passing lane, on Hwy. 1, in Abbotsford.

Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with the BC RCMP Highway Patrol said that one of those wheels crossed the highway median and smashed into a westbound SUV causing serious damage to the vehicle.

Delta police said they’ll keep using proactive enforcement and will continue to enforce truck routes throughout the city.
