Let’s head back in time and visit the Robert Smith Residence which was located at the corner of Highway 17 and 56 Street in Tsawwassen. It was built around 1912.
Born in 1873, Robert Smith and his brother Charles came to British Columbia from Scotland in 1902 to join their brother Alex, who owned 80 acres on Boundary Bay Road.
Robert Smith married Elizabeth Westwood of Edinburgh and they built a small house on the property in 1903. They expanded it 1910.
Shortly afterwards, they built the new, larger structure on the property, known as the Robert Smith Residence. It remained in the family for decades..
It was demolished in 2009 after being left vacant for years and having fallen into disrepair.
