The former BC United candidate for Delta North, is now supporting the NDP in B.C.’s provincial election that takes place Oct. 19.

Amrit Pal Singh Dhot said in a release issued by the BC NDP Monday that he’s endorsing NDP incumbent and Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon.

BC United, formerly the B.C. Liberal Party, suspended its campaign in late August with leader Kevin Falcon urging members to support the Conservative Party of B.C.

“I have been a BC Liberal for many years. I believe in bold and pragmatic action to make life better. I believe in a society where everyone is welcome and where the government takes action to tackle tough challenges and make life better,” Dhot said in the release. “Of the candidates remaining in this race, there is only one that matches these values. That’s David Eby’s BC NDP.”

Dhot said that the BC Conservative leader John Rustad has promised to cut $4.1 billion in health care spending and that many of Rustad’s candidates have extreme views.

“I can’t get behind that. This time, I support Ravi Kahlon, David Eby and the BC NDP team.”

The support was welcome by Kahlon, saying that while they may not agree on everything, “we agree that John Rustad’s extreme views, and his proposal to cut $4.1 billion from our health care, is a risk to the well-being of people in North Delta and across the province.”

Kahlon added that former BC Liberals who don’t like what they’re seeing coming from the BC Conservatives and want to build hospitals and homes instead of cancelling them, can see NDP Premier David Eby  as a champion of “things that matter most to you.

“We’re stronger together,” Kahlon said in the NDP release.
