Fraser River flood watch continues

The B.C. River Forecast Centre is maintaining a high streamflow advisory for the lower portion of the Fraser River as the water level continues to peak.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre is maintaining a high streamflow advisory for the lower portion of the Fraser River as the water level continues to peak.

Early Friday morning, the river peaked at a flow of 11,900 cubic metres per second at Hope and is expected to remain elevated at around 11,600 cubic metres per second through the weekend.

On Thursday afternoon, the Corporation of Delta issued an update stating that while the risk of flooding in Delta is currently low, that status is subject to change. This week, Delta staff began daily dike patrols and at the direction of Mayor Lois Jackson the municipality's emergency operations centre was set up to ensure a quick response should conditions change.

Updates will be posted on Delta's website, www.delta.corp.bc.ca.

On Thursday, three homes outside the dike in Chilliwack were evacuated and residents on Barnston Island in Surrey were issued an evacuation alert.
