Guild welcomes spring with show

The South Delta Artists' Guild is welcoming the beginning of spring with an art show and sale at the Kiwanis Longhouse for the Visual Arts. For the month of April, there will be paintings for sale with a hint of spring, with an opening reception the afternoon of Saturday, March 31.

Bloomin Art is the name of the show, and to spice things up, the artists have created some very unique planters for your balconies and patios. They have taken old shoes, and re-purposed them into fun and fanciful plant pots. They look great individually, or even as a group. This creative endeavour is a fundraiser for the guild.

With over 150 talented artists working out of the Longhouse, money needs to be raised to keep the rent paid, as well as upkeep on the building. The Longhouse was built by the Kiwanis service club, and donated to the Corporation of Delta, where the Tsawwassen Library was once located.

When the library moved to the new mall location, the building was used by Delta Parks and Recreation before being turned over to the South Delta Artists' Guild as a Visual Arts Centre for the community.

The guild has been located here for over 10 years now, transforming the inside of the building into a working studio/workshop space for life drawing, drop in space for artists to meet and work, and space for larger workshops and classes, which are held on an ongoing basis and attended by artists from the lower mainland.

There is also a large gallery where original art is displayed on an ongoing basis.
