Kids travel cross country in Bay

Annual meet organized by the RunInn attracts 1,200

Over 1,000 kids took part in the fourth annual Boundary Bay Cross Country Meet last Thursday.

The event turned out great, says the RunInn's Kevin Ridley. The RunInn Delta presented the meet.

"We had awesome weather for the day for the 1,200 kids that participated in the event," he noted.

Ridley estimated close to $3,200 was raised for the Hannah's Heroes Foundation. Each racer donated $1 while the rest of the donations, along with food costs, were covered by sponsors, he noted.

Students from 13 schools took part, with races for grades 2 to 7. Mostly Delta schools participated but students from Surrey and Vancouver schools competed as well. Students were treated to a barbecue put on by the TOOBs service club.

There were Century Group medals awarded to the top eight kids in each group as well as prizes donated by Saucony for kids that gave the best effort on the day, Ridley said.

Event sponsors included DNA Data, Muscle Memory, Saucony, South Coast Landscaping, Brent Deerheim Golf, TOOBs, Sungod Physiotherapy, Darlene Lee, the Century Group and RunInn Delta.

Hannah's Heroes Foundation was established in 2007 to raise awareness of the lack of research into pediatric brain cancer as well as raise money for treatment research.
