For outstanding service to the Delta community, past president of the Delta Community Foundation Gail Martin received Rotary’s prestigious international Paul Harris Fellow Award at the Nov. 19 meeting of the Rotary Club of Ladner.
Paul Harris Fellow honourees are individuals who meet high professional and personal standards set forth by Harris, as founder in 1905 of the now 1.4-million-member Rotary International. Honourees may be members who have reached a milestone in giving to The Rotary Foundation or may be community leaders for extraordinary service above self.
Martin, earlier a resident of Tsawwassen, has lived in North Delta since 1973 where she raised her now adult children. She retired in 2002 after 34 years at Telus.
Her many contributions to the Delta community have come through service such as:
• Conquer Cancer as canvasser
• school Parents Advisory group
• Sur-Del Scouts Canada
• Delta Family Court Committee
• Delta Community Services Advisory Committee
• Delta Healthy Communities Committee
• Delta Area Planning Committee
• Delta Police Board
• Delta Police Foundation
• BC Labour Relations Board
• Boys and Girls Clubs of South Coast B.C.
• Crossroads United Church where she provided congregational outreach during the pandemic.
“Having founded the Delta Community Foundation in 1986 our club is very proud of the growth and many recent accomplishments of the Delta Community Foundation under the leadership of Gail Martin so deserving of this recognition for service above self,” said Rotary Club of Ladner president David Rushton. “We continue to share our passion to serve the community of Delta.”
