Lyft is expanding its operating region and will now be serving a region from Horseshoe Bay to the U.S. border and UBC to Langley as well as in Delta.

According to a news release, the rideshare company continues to see the number of drivers interested in participating in this flexible earning opportunity increase and has heard from both riders and drivers that there’s significant appetite for Lyft to serve a larger region.

Lyft has also seen a desire from riders to have an additional transportation option to get to the ferry terminals in the region.

On Monday, Lyft has become the only rideshare company to serve Horseshoe Bay and Tsawwassen ferry terminals, White Rock and Langley, as well as all of West Vancouver.

“We’ve heard loud and clear that Lyft users would like to see us operating in a larger region - and we’re thrilled to now be offering service from Horseshoe Bay to the U.S. Border, and UBC to Langley,” said Peter Lukomskyj, General Manager for Lyft in B.C. “We’re looking forward to offering residents and visitors an additional way of getting to and from the ferry terminals, in addition to across much of Metro Vancouver. We will continue working hard to grow our driver community and serve the full region as soon as possible.”

The company welcomes applications from drivers interested in joining the Lyft community. To support drivers, Lyft has opened three driver hub locations, in Surrey, Richmond and the City of Vancouver. Lyft has also partnered with Valley Driving School for prospective drivers looking to obtain their Class 4 commercial licence, and is offering incentives to new drivers. Delta was ready for ride-hailing in the fall of 2019 "when it established some of the lowest business licence fees in Metro Vancouver and made the process as simple as possible for ride-hailing operators," according to a news release from the city.

Both Lyft and Uber hold valid business licences to operate in Delta, it notes.

"Ride-hailing offers Delta residents another transportation alternative and I’m glad to see Lyft expand its service area to include our community. I am proud of council and staff for moving quickly on this issue to ensure that ride-hailing companies were able to provide service in Delta as soon as their business operations allowed," Mayor George Harvie is quoted as saying in the release.
