New FHA site helps expectant parents

Fraser Health has launched its Best Beginnings website to provide pregnant women in the region with easy, online access to prenatal registration.

All pregnant women are encouraged to register for the Best Beginnings program early in their pregnancy at www.fraserhealth. ca/your_health/best-beginnings/. Once registered, new moms and dads will receive a package of information about preparing for a healthy pregnancy, labour and birth, breastfeeding, services in Fraser Health communities and other valuable resources.

Enhanced or additional support is also available for more vulnerable women and families.

In addition to the online prenatal registration, the Best Beginnings website provides insights about such issues as understanding fertility, depression and anxiety, healthy child development and links to local community services.

It also shares tips and solutions to practical questions about finances, managing relationships and information specifically for new dads.

"The Best Beginnings website is an excellent resource for new and expectant mothers and families," said Dr. Victoria Lee, Fraser Health's executive medical director, population health. "All pregnant women should visit the website to register in the prenatal system and to access valuable insights, tips and information that supports healthy pregnancy and healthy child development."

"It is important that new and expectant parents feel supported and have access to accurate and reliable information before, during and after pregnancy," said Health Minister Terry Lake.

"Local resources like this one, along with our Healthy Families BC website and tools, work to ensure that families are supported and armed with information during the exciting time of planning for or welcoming home a new addition to the family."
