The temporary closure of the George Mackie Library for a roof replacement is going to be extended for a little while longer.
Originally scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, August 2, it has been determined that construction will continue for an additional week, the Fraser Valley Regional Library said.
The library is now to reopen on Monday, Aug. 8.
The FVRL also noted that during the closure, residents can visit the library’s pop-up location at Sungod Recreation Centre (7815-112 St).
The hours will remain the same: Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Come to the pop-up library to pick up holds, return materials, register for a free library card, or sign up for Summer Reading Club.
Drop by to ask questions, do the crossword, or read a magazine. A small collection of items will also be available for browsing and borrowing.
Also visit the pop-up library for in-person Babytimes and Storytimes.
Babytime runs on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Storytime is offered on Fridays from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
For a complete list of both online events and in-person events for all ages, visit the events page at www.fvrl.ca.
Meanwhile, Outreach services will be resuming at the George Mackie Library when it reopens.
The FVRL says the library welcomes community partners S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and MOSAIC as the social services organizations begin weekly visits to the library starting in August.
Every Tuesday, beginning August 9, from 1 to 5 p.m., Pashto and Dari-speaking outreach staff from S.U.C.C.E.S.S. will be at the library offering assistance to individuals and families who are temporary or permanent residents, as well as people who are already Canadian citizens.
A settlement worker from S.U.C.C.E.S.S. can answer questions and concerns about different services, such as employment, health, housing, settlement, for people from Afghanistan, Pakistan or Iran.
MOSAIC outreach staff will be at the library every Wednesday beginning Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Discover the free employment programs offered by WorkBC.
If you are looking for work and you are a skilled immigrant, Indigenous, a young adult, an older worker, a person with disabilities or barriers, or experiencing homelessness, come to the library to find out what is available for you.
