June 13, 6300 Block of Sunwood Drive: Complainant reported that their vacant residence, under renovation, was broken into sometime overnight. Suspects broke the lock on the side door and entered the residence through the garage. Tools and fixtures valued at $10,000 belonging to the complainant and a contractor were stolen. Police attended and located possible surveillance video footage of the incident. The file is under investigation.
June 13, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported a Facebook Marketplace scam where the complaint transferred $65 to the seller on agreement that a chair would be delivered to the buyer. No chair was received. The complainant investigated the incident and determined the profile and pictures to be fake. Queries by police of the email address used by the seller were negative. The complainant was advised that the incident is “buyer beware” and they will not be able to recover the lost funds.
June 13, 11500 85th Avenue: Complainant observed their truck being broken into by two males. As the complainant approached, the males fled the area. The rear lock of the vehicle was damaged, but nothing was stolen. Police attended and located tools that will be submitted to identification services for possible fingerprints. A canvass of the neighbourhood for surveillance video proved negative.
June 13, Public Safety Building, 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported that they unknowingly used a fraudulent company for making a $191 payment when applying for an Indian travel visa for their spouse. The Indian Consulate was contacted, and the complainant was then directed to the legitimate site for payment. The complainant was concerned as personal information was provided to the fraudulent site. The website was found by police to originate in the UK and confirmed to be fraudulent. Police advised the complainant to contact their bank, Service Canada, Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, and Equifax re the fraud.
June 15, 7700 Block of 119A Street: Complainant reported that they were attempting to sell a dirt bike on Facebook Marketplace for $2,000. A male attended the complainant’s address and while test driving the bike, fled the area without payment. The suspect is described as dark skinned with dreadlocks. Still images were provided to police for investigation.
