The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. July 9, 10500 Block of 84th Avenue: Complainant parked their vehicle on the street and when they returned the vehicle was gone. The complainant indicated they had lost a key to the vehicle about a month ago. The vehicle information was placed on the Canadian Police Information Centre as stolen, and a file number provided for insurance purposes.

July 9, Public Safety Building, 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported having difficulty with their computer camera and allowed a third party to have access to the computer. The complainant transferred more than $20,000 to what they thought was Apple support and the bank. When further funds were requested, the complainant realized the situation was fraudulent. The complainant contacted the bank who advised them they would attempt to retrieve the funds.

July 11, 8100 Block of 120th Street: Complainant left their e-bike locked in the underground parking lot of a business, when they returned the bike was gone. The e-bike is described as a $2,500 black Radpower cycle with thick tires. The business indicated there is no surveillance video in the area. The bike was added to the Canadian Police Information Centre as stolen.

July 12, 10800 Block of River Road: While conducting a proactive roadblock, police observed a vehicle attempt to avoid the stop. Police conducted a stop of the vehicle and a strong odour of liquor emanated from the driver’s breath. Two breath samples were provided, with both reading ‘fail.’ As a result, the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. The vehicle was towed from the scene, and the driver left by Uber.

July 12, 8000 Block of 120th Street: While conducting proactive patrols, the police queried a vehicle and found a prohibited driver. Police identified the driver and charged them with driving while prohibited contrary to the Motor Vehicle Act. The vehicle was impounded for a mandatory seven days.
