The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in-progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.

June 17, Public Safety Building 1137 84th Avenue: Complainant reported that they received a call from a person claiming to represent Telus Moblity indicating the complainant is eligible for a phone upgrade. The complainant provided personal information to the caller before realizing it was a scam call. The complainant has contacted their bank, Telus, and Equifax re the incident and was reporting to police for information purposes only.

June 20, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue:  The complainant reported they were attempting to fix their Amazon account and clicked on a link which brought up a support phone number. The complainant called the number and was advised to e-transfer $1,500 to fix the issued. The funds transferred by the complainant before realizing the support to be fraudulent. Bank to investigate the incident. Police provided complainant with information re possible future scams.

June 21, 11400 Block of 84th Avenue: Complainant reported their son’s iPhone stolen from the gym at the recreation centre. The son indicated he was playing basketball with friends and left the phone on the bench. No suspects, witnesses, or surveillance video.  Owner identification information in the case of the phone.   

June 21, 9200 Block of 115A Street: Complainant reported they left their vehicle in the driveway and sometime overnight it was stolen. Items in the vehicle include clothing and the complainant’s wallet containing bank cards and $250 in cash. Police advised the complainant to contact their bank and ICBC. No surveillance video available. The vehicle added to the Canadian Police Information Centre as stolen. 

June 22, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported they had been contacted by a person via WhatsApp re a job opportunity. During the conversation the complainant was persuaded to invest $25,000 in a crypto currency scam. Three separate deposits made to different crypto wallet numbers via a bitcoin machine. Incident still under investigation with Cyber Security.

June 22, 11200 Block of 87A Avenue: Complainant reported there are ongoing incidents of mail theft in their neighbourhood. Police requested the complainant submit any surveillance video available in the area and will continue with an investigation.

June 22, 9300 Block of 119A Street: Complainant reported the theft of planted flowers from in front of their home. Surveillance video shows three males stealing the flowers and superficially scratching the bumper of the complainant’s car. Police examined the video, but it was not suitable for identification of the suspects. Approximate value of the flowers is $200. Police have requested extra patrols in the area.
