The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. *June 28, 700 Block of Cliveden Drive: A business reported a theft, sometime overnight, of a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked in the back lot of the business. The complainant to provide police with security video which shows a UHAUL entering the lot followed by a loud grinding noise.
*June 28, 8000 Block of 113B Street: Complainant reported a catalytic converter was partially cut off a motor home parked in front of their residence. The converter, valued at $3,000, is damaged beyond repair. The suspect fled the scene when neighbours came outside to investigate the noise. The neighbours’ security video captured images and it appears to be the same vehicle involved in a previous theft, although make/model of the vehicle not determined.
*June 29, 11000 Block of 80th Avenue: Complainant reported that sometime over the past two days, $200 and some medication were stolen from their vehicle parked in the underground parking lot. The complainant indicated they may have left the doors of the vehicle unlocked. No security video or suspects at this time.
*June 29, 900 Block of Highway 91: A car travelling at a high rate of speed approached a police vehicle and then passed at a speed clocked at 130 km/h. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and the driver provided their driver’s license and registration. The driver was charged with and received a ticket for driving at an excessive speed. The vehicle was impounded and the driver left the scene in an arranged ride.
*June 29, 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant attended the North Delta Public Safety Building to report suspicious phone calls they had received. They indicated they have been dealing with their mother’s estate. The calls they received stated this is the Delta Police and they were being investigated for fraudulent activity. Assuming this was to do with their mother’s estate, the complainant divulged personal information. The complainant advised to contact TransUnion and Equifax to prevent further fraud.
*June 29, 600 Block of Chester Road: A business reported the theft of a catalytic converter from their work vehicle. Police provided with security video showing an unknown male, approximately 30 to 40 years of age, riding a bicycle, and then crawling under the vehicle and remaining there for a long duration. The male then appeared and stood up with the catalytic converter in their hand. Pictures of the suspect to be distributed for possible identification.
*July 1, 1600 Block of Cliveden Avenue: Complainant reported two suspects broke into a parked food truck and stole $1,000 and other items including several knives. Security video shows a male and female in dark baggy clothing gaining access to the truck through an unlocked side window and leaving the area on foot. A piece of evidence seized from the scene to be examined and then lodged into exhibits.
*July 2, Delsom Way & 84th Avenue: Police conducted a roadblock at the location and stopped a vehicle whose driver had a strong odour of liquor on their breath. The suspect was unable to produce a driver’s license. The suspect provided two breath samples which both read “Warn” and as consequence was given a three-day driving prohibition, a vehicle ticket, and a roadside suspension. The vehicle was not impounded, but removed from the roadway by a friend.
