The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. *Jan. 30, 11800 Block of 88th Avenue: Report received from complainant that a person had entered the building and pried open a number of mailboxes. Complainant unable to verify if any mail stolen. The affected tenants were notified. No surveillance video available. Police informed Canada Post Security of the incident.
*Jan. 30, 11800 Block of 84th Avenue: Complainant reported that, sometime over the past week, the catalytic converter was stolen from their father’s vehicle, parked outside the family residence. Estimated value of converter is $1,500. No witnesses or surveillance video.
*Feb. 3, 700 Block of Eaton Way: A business reported to police that they were the victim of fraud. An unknown person had emailed the payroll department impersonating an employee who was requesting a change to their account. The account information was changed and as a result the suspect was sent over $6,000. The fraud was discovered when the employee reported not being paid. A dispute has been initiated with the bank and a file number provided. Police requested copies of the emails and further information from payroll for investigative purposes.
*Feb. 4, 7800 Swanson Drive: Complainant reported they left their vehicle unlocked and sometime overnight their wallet containing debit card and identification was stolen from the vehicle. The wallet was located near the vehicle but the debit card was missing and had been used to make several transactions. The complainants’ bank has been contacted and the debit card cancelled.
*Feb. 4, 7700 Block of 114A Street: Complainant reported their vehicle, parked outside their residence, had been broken into sometime overnight. A fire extinguisher valued at $40 was stolen from the vehicle. Examination of neighbour’s surveillance video revealed three males loitering in the area.
*Feb. 5, 11300 Block of 77th Avenue: Complainant reported that their vehicle parked outside their residence, had been entered and their wallet containing banking and personal cards had been stolen. The debit card had been used at several locations before the card was cancelled and the charges reversed. Additionally, $2,500 worth of electrician tools were stolen. Police are examining surveillance videos from several businesses in an attempt to identify the suspects.
