The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. Nov. 21, 6800 Block of Nicholson Road: Complainant reported an attempted break and enter to a storage unit in the parking garage. Photographs of the damage were provided by the complainant who indicated they were reporting for information purposes only.

Nov. 21, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Ave.: Complainant reported they had been scammed through a job ad on Facebook and had communicated through an encrypted app called Telegram. The company assigned the complainant various tasks but required a cryptocurrency exchange of $3,000 with a promise to return the funds. When a further $5,000 was requested the complainant attempted to get their money back was denied. Police advised the complainant that investigative avenues are limited as cryptocurrency and an encrypted app were used. File concluded.

Nov. 22, Public safety Building 11375 84th Ave.: Complainant reported to police that an unknown person in Markham, Ontario had ordered a credit card in their name. The complainant informed the bank and Equifax of the fraudulent situation. Police advised the complaint to make sure their passwords are secure and provided them with a police file number.

Nov. 23, 11200 Block 88A Ave.: Complainant reported they received a scam phone call from a male caller requesting $8,200 for their granddaughter’s bail. The complainant ended the call as they felt it was suspicious. They then confirmed their granddaughter was not in jail but were concerned the caller might attend their residence. Police educated the complainant on scam calls and asked them to report any further suspicious activity.

Nov. 24, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Ave.: Complainant reported to police that when they attended the bank to increase their credit they were declined due to a poor credit rating. Police observed the Equifax report and discovered that a second person with the same name had been associated with the complainant’s credit score. The complainant provided with information and procedure to file a complaint with Equifax.

Nov. 26, 8200 Block of 112th St.: Complainant reported their vehicle had the rear window broken while parked in the driveway. Items located in a backpack stolen include $7,550 in cash, an Asus laptop, and an iPhone 12 Pro. Video surveillance revealed a dark coloured van in front of the residence and a person breaking the window and entering the vehicle. Due to poor natural lighting the quality of the video not sufficient for identification. The complainant advised to contact ICBC.

Nov. 24, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Ave.: Complainant reported they had replied to a Facebook Market Place ad for an apartment for rent and spoken to a “Ramon Alexander”. The complainant agreed to send $600 as a damage deposit and then realized they were a victim of fraud when “Ramon” stopped replying to their emails. Police attempted to contact the suspect but the number listed as not active or registered.

Nov. 27, 8500 Block of Terrace Drive: Complainant reported their surveillance video captured a male entering the passenger side of their unlocked vehicle. Police attended and searched the vehicle but nothing left behind by the suspect. Nothing of value missing from the vehicle. Surveillance video not suitable for identification of a possible suspect.
