The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. Nov. 14, 9000 Block of 120th St.: Complainant reported their vehicle in the underground parking lot was broken into and their wallet stolen. A text message from the credit card company alerted the complainant that their credit card had been fraudulently used. No damage to the vehicle. All bank and credit cards cancelled. Police obtained surveillance video from a business of the credit card being used and disseminated photos for possible identification of a suspect.
Nov. 15, 700 Block of Audley Blvd: A business reported a break and enter where a suspect entered the warehouse via a locked door and removed two boxes containing electric bikes and exited through the same door. It is believe the suspect picked the lock. The business has located two posts on Facebook Marketplace containing what they believe to be the stolen bikes. Theft still under investigation.
Nov. 16, 7900 Block of 120th St.: A business reported that someone has been posing on Facebook as their company and had hired a person in Quebec who is complaining their pay cheques have been bouncing. As the owner is the only person working in the business they believe the situation to be fraudulent. The victim of the fraud advised to contact the police in their jurisdiction in Quebec. Business not affected by the fraud as the suspect only has the name and address of the business as posted on Facebook.
Nov. 17, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Ave.: Complainant reported they had received a letter from “John Woodgate” who is a lawyer for a deceased relative who has left millions of US dollars which have not been claimed. The complainant was asked to provide all their personal information via email in order to make a claim. The complainant did not provide any information and wished to report the letter for police awareness.
Nov. 19, 11400 89A Ave.: Complainant reported the catalytic converter had been stolen sometime overnight from their vehicle parked on the street. Damage to the vehicle approximately $2,000. No suspects or witnesses. Complainant provided with a file number for insurance purposes.
Nov. 19, 11800 Block of 88th Ave.: Report of an intoxicated male in the building who was refusing to leave. Police attended and located the male who was causing a disturbance in the parking lot by yelling nonsense. The male was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and transported to cells. A half empty bottle of rum and marijuana were seized for destruction.
Nov. 19, PSB 11375 84th Ave.: Complainant reported they had been alerted to a cell phone being fraudulently purchased for $500 under their name. Complainant advised they had cancelled their bank card and opened a civil file with Freedom Mobile to investigate the purchase. No further police action required and incident reported for information purposes.
Nov. 19, 11200 Block of 88th Ave.: Complainant reported that sometime overnight the catalytic converter had been stolen from their vehicle parked in the driveway of their residence. Police attended and confirmed nothing left by the suspects at the scene. File number provided for ICBC purposes.
Nov. 20, 11800 84th Ave.: Complainant reported their vehicle was scratched while parked on the street. Police attended and confirmed the damage to be associated with a mischief file in October and updated the file number. The complainant provided with the new file number to follow up with ICBC.
Nov. 20, 9400 Block of 118th St.: Complainant reported the theft sometime over the past two days of the catalytic converted from their vehicle parked in the driveway. Canvas of neighbourhood for surveillance video proved negative.
Nov. 20, 11500 Commonwealth Crescent: Complainant reported they were alerted to someone on their front porch via a motion camera. A female was observed by the complainant taking a stool from the porch and leaving in a brown Toyota sedan with a missing hubcap. The complainant later observed the same vehicle and called 911. Police to examine surveillance video and will continue to investigate the incident.
