The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls Delta police responded to in the previous week:
*Jan. 23, 5:02 p.m., 7000 block 112th Street: Complainant called police to report that an LED rope garden light had been stolen off of her plant located in her front yard. The incident was captured on video where it can be seen that a male arrived in a vehicle and had taken the light. Police reviewed the video and due to extremely poor quality, police were unable to decipher an associated license plate or identify the subject. Police advised the resident to remember to keep all doors locked and to have valuables out of view.
*Jan. 23, 11:40 p.m., Nordel Way 120th Street: Police were conducting routine patrols when they observed a vehicle going 113 km/h in a posted 60 km/h. Police stopped the vehicle and the driver was issued an excessive speeding ticket as well as the vehicle being towed.
*Jan. 26, 8:49 a.m., Nordel Way Highway 17: Police observed a single-motor vehicle incident westbound from Highway 17 onto Nordel Way. The driver stated that he was making a left turn westbound when a water leak occurred from his roof top, causing him to swerve and hit the sign on the meridian. Damage to the vehicle was sustained, but no injuries or signs of impairment were present.
*Jan. 26, 12:00 p.m., Kittson Parkway McKenzie Drive: Police were conducting mobile speed enforcement when a vehicle drove by at a speed of 105 km/h in a posted 50 km/h. Police stopped the vehicle and the driver was issued an excessive speeding ticket as well as the vehicle being towed.
*Jan. 26, 9:42 a.m., 12100 block 66th Avenue: Police conducted a traffic stop to test for sobriety. The driver had an odor of liquor on his breath as he spoke. The driver stated his last drink was, “7 p.m. last night.” An Approved Screen Device demand was read resulting in two “FAIL” attempts. The male was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition as well as the vehicle being towed.
