North Delta Crime Beat: Teens seen smashing car windows with baseball bat

Police also arrest suspect for possible mail theft

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. *Nov. 8, 10100 Block Swenson Way: Complainant reported their company fuel card was used without their authorization for $3,500 in fuel purchases. Credit card company informed of fraud and credit card locked and a new one issued. Investigation of the fraud to be carried out by the credit card company.

*Nov. 10, 11500 Block of 84th Avenue: Complainant reported a break and enter to their storage lockers in the secured underground lot of their apartment building. No signs of forced entry to storage room. Several items stolen with a total value of $120. 

*Nov. 10, 8900 Block of Mitchell Way: Complainant reported their mail and a package stolen from their residence. Police attended and recognized a possible suspect from the surveillance video. The suspect was located and arrested for theft of the mail and then released on a requirement to appear in court on a future date. Stolen property was recovered. 

*Nov. 11, PSB 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant attended the Public Safety Building indicating they were the victim of fraud. An email was received by the complainant indicating they had a credit from “Fido.” The complaint clicked on a link and inputted personal and banking information before they realized the situation was fraudulent. All cards and accounts were cancelled, and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, Equifax, and TransUnion were informed of the fraud. The complainant was given advice on internet safety protocols.

*Nov. 13, 11400 Block of Pemberton Crescent: Complainant reported their vehicle had its windows smashed sometime overnight. Surveillance video obtained from a neighbouring house showed a white BMW sedan park down the street and four teenage males using a baseball bat to smash the windows and then run back to their vehicle and speed away. Officers were unable to retrieve a license plate number from the video surveillance. Complainant indicated no one in the family has any issues with anyone that would cause the teenagers to smash the windows.

*Nov. 13, 11900 Block of 88th Avenue: A restaurant reported a male customer had dined and then dashed from the restaurant with paying their bill. Police attended but were advised that the customer had inadvertently left without paying and returned to pay the bill.
