North Delta Crime Beat: Thief looking to smell good after stealing perfume from unlocked vehicle

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest.

 

Feb. 27, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported they had sent $865 to an unknown suspect as a deposit on a rental suite. Subsequently, the suspect ceased all contact with the complainant. The complainant contacted the owners of the residence and found that a rental suite did not exist. A file number was provided to the complainant for the bank to investigate. 

Feb. 28, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported that they had sent $440 to an unknown person who claimed they would expedite their USA Travel Visa application. The complainant then sent a further $120 and their login email/password. A further $320 was sent to the unknown person for the information to be returned but the credentials were never sent. The complainant was not concerned regarding the loss of funds but worried their personal information would be compromised. Police advised the complaint to cancel the USA Travel Visa account and report the fraud to Canada Anti-Fraud Centre and their bank.

Feb. 28, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: A business reported being the victim of fraudulent banking transactions. An unknown person had hacked the company email and contacted contractors advising of a bank change. This caused the customers to send funds totaling $20,000 to the unknown person. The complaint was to provide police with banking records from the transactions for the investigation to continue.

Feb. 29, 7900 Block of 120th Street: A business reported that two teenage males had entered the store and selected two energy drinks and candy bars, then left the store without payment. Police attended and obtained still photos of the suspects from the surveillance video. Investigation to continue pending positive identification of the males.

March 1, 1000 Block of Clivedan Avenue: Complainant reported their food truck was broken into sometime overnight while parked at their business location. The driver’s side window was broken, and a generator valued at $700 was stolen. Surveillance video was provided to police. 

March 2, 11800 Block of 73A Avenue: Complainant reported that they had left their vehicle unlocked, and sometime overnight, the vehicle entered and rummaged through. A bottle of Chanel perfume valued at $150 was stolen. 

March 2, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported being exploited after sending intimate images to someone they met online. The suspect then demanded $2,500 or the pictures would be sent to the complainant’s followers on Instagram. The complainant did not send funds, and several followers reported receiving the images. The complainant has since blocked the account. Police provided the complainant with the website, stopncill.org, which supports victims of non-consensual intimate image distribution.
