The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. *Sept. 28, 1600 Block of Derwent Way: A business reported someone had cut the chain link fence, entered the compound and then cut the padlock on a rented trailer. There appeared to be no damage or anything stolen from the trailer. No suspects or witnesses. Police advised the business to consider surveillance cameras around the business for additional security.
*Sept. 29, 6400 Block of Woodglen Street: Complainant reported the catalytic converter had been stolen sometime over the past 10 days from their vehicle parked in the driveway. The theft was not noticed for a period of time as this is a secondary vehicle used only occasionally.
*Sept. 29, 11800 Block of 80th Avenue: Complainant reported their vehicle, left in the underground parking lot, had been broken into sometime overnight and an empty black leather purse stolen. The suspects smashed the rear driver’s side window causing $200 in damage. Investigation found another vehicle in the parking lot had been entered by unknown means and a Samsung cell phone and Gucci sunglasses with a total value of $1,200 had been stolen. A can of bear spray was left behind in one of the vehicles by the suspects. Identification services attended in order to secure fingerprints and seize the bear spray.
*Sept. 30, 6400 Block of 120th Street: The security company reported to a business that the alarm had been triggered early in the morning. The owner of the business arrived and found the front door open, items thrown about, and the cash register drawer open. The front door lock had been punched out and was determined to be the point of entry. Video surveillance from next door was examined revealed nothing. Identification services attended the scene to examine for fingerprints.
*Oct. 1, 8100 Block of 120th Street: A business reported they had observed a female and two males select and conceal items and then leave the store without offering payment. The store provided the police with a description of the individuals. Suspects, matching the description, were picked up at the bus stop by police. The business confirmed the three as the suspects who were then chartered, warned, and released by police as the business did not want to pursue charges. The stolen goods, valued at $400, were seized by police and returned to the business.
*Oct. 2, 10800 Block of 63rd Avenue: Complainant reported the catalytic converter had been stolen sometime overnight from their vehicle. Police to review surveillance video from a neighbour in order to identify a possible suspect.
*Oct. 2, 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported that two fraudulent e-transfers had been made from their bank account. The complainant indicated they had received a scam text claiming to be the government wanting to send them a $540 refund cheque and to follow a computer link. The complainant had contacted the bank and their accounts were frozen to prevent any further activity. The bank is investigating the fraud and will determine if a refund is possible.
