Three exceptional South Delta community members were honoured Sunday afternoon, Sept. 15, with a King Charles III Coronation Medal.
South Delta MLA Ian Paton made the presentation to Judi Stene, Mike Guichon and Lisa Hoglund at a luncheon at Taverna Gorgona Restaurant.
“I chose individuals who have been unshakable pillars in our community and who have helped build and create the community we enjoy today,” said Paton in a news release. “These incredible individuals have dedicated their entire professional and personal lives to their area of remarkable contribution.”
Stene is Delta’s longest serving public servant who has worked for more than 50 years at the City of Delta and who will be retiring this year as the Deputy Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture
“Judi’s passion for bringing people together has been evident through her career as she is truly the heart and soul of events at the City of Delta, overseeing all the City’s community events including the Boundary Bay Airshow, Luminary Festival, the Olympic Torch Run, Battle of the Badges, Tour De Delta, the BC Summer Games, hosting international Olympians at sporting events, as well as major City events like the Olympic torch run,” said Paton. “It’s hard to imagine Delta without her influence.”
Hoglund was recognized for her longstanding service as a non-profit leader in Delta.
Hoglund serves as the Executive Director of the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Delta Hospital, Mountainview Manor, and the Irene Thomas Hospice.
“With over 18 years in the non-profit sector, Lisa has demonstrated exceptional leadership in community engagement and development, driving the Foundation to achieve significant milestones and forever changing healthcare services in Delta,” added Paton.
Guichon, a third-generation farmer and proud supporter of all Delta farmers, his contribution to agriculture dates back to the early 70’s where he was the Delta Farmers delegate to the BC Federation of Agriculture. He has also served as the Director of the Delta Chamber of Commerce, the Ladner Rotary Club, Delta Farmers Institute, the Delta Agricultural Society, and as a leader and mentor in Delta’s AA community.
“As a pillar in the farming community, Mike helps his fellow farming colleague in anyway he can, making sure the future of farming stays bright while also ensuring it’s heritage is honoured,” said Paton. “For decades, Mike has supplied the tractors, drivers, and custom-built trailers for the May Queen and Court in the Ladner May Days Parade, and his tractors and floats for the Ladner Band, Sacred Heart School, Delta Gymnastics, Delta Farmers Institute, Thrifty Foods, Backroads Market and the Tsawwassen Sunfest just to name a few.”
The Coronation Medal commemorates the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III as King of Canada.
